Wiki'ed them ...
"In 1993, the company became a subsidiary of Spectrum HoloByte. Subsequent cuts led to Sid Meier, Jeff Briggs and Brian Reynolds leaving and forming Firaxis Games in 1996. In 1998, MicroProse (Spectrum HoloByte) had become a wholly owned subsidiary of Hasbro Interactive. In 1999, studios in Alameda, California and Chapel Hill, North Carolina were closed. In 2001, MicroProse ceased to exist as an entity and Hasbro Interactive sold the ex-MicroProse IPs to Infogrames Entertainment, SA."

They had a submarine game too. Can remember my brother and I spent one day sinking plenty Japanese boats - probably a total of 10 hours ... previous to that I was useless with it. He's a bit of a military tactician and was honestly surprised how the game aided proper tactics, etc.

Good old Sid Meier!!

Railroad Tycoon (and Railroads) / Civ - what a series! / even got Pirates for the  Xbox for the kids ... and me ;)

Just wish I never sold the Amiga  ;D

Still have mine with the best footy game ever Sensible soccer  ;D

Ah good old SWOS!

Yes, best footy game ever.

Championship MAnager meets FIFA... only before either were even born!

Many, many, many, many hours wasted, and girlfriends lost to SWOS.  ;D

And how about the Dino Dini games, Kick Off! and Goal - they were great time consumers too!

speaking of footy, i remember konami's football on Canon MSX 64, emyln hughes soccer or a name similar to that, manu football on amiga, sinclair and hughes uptop... well we are talking about more than 20 years here... and still : ) am looking forward to a new season with fut.

Spent many a happy hour playing swos

Remember getting the first kick off game on the Atari st, it didn't even have proper goals just 2 sticks in the ground. Really enjoyed it at the time, found future kick off games to be a bit too much like pinball for my liking.

My first proper football game was international football for the c64, now got it on the c64 emulator on the iPhone, it's a truly shocking game now, but I remember enjoying at the time.

morning

i will be getting FIFA14 on the PS3. I didn't pre-order the PS4 so hopefully I can get one at the release (29 November), if so I will buy it and buy FiFA14 on the PS4 too, sell my copy on the PS3. the whole transfer thing is pretty good, otherwise I would have waited till I got a PS4.

I don't buy any games on the PS3 anymore (except FIfa), still have my Plus membership and I will play some free games next to FIFA. This month assassins Creed 3 is free so there you go

as for consoles, don't see a need to transfer. Used to the PSN, most of my buddies are on it too.

Goes away for a few days, thread gets totally derailed by old gits reminiscing  :'(

Good read tho  ;D

Used to play some footy and American footy (4th and Inches!) games on 2600, C64, ZX81, but Kick Off and Kick Off 2 on the Amiga were probably the first sports games I remember fondly.

Still not sure on the whole next-gen choice. Not properly looked into the spec. of either machine or other titles available for them yet, so probably going to look into it a bit more over the next few days when I get the chance and decide from there.

Wasn't going to mention ZX81 in a gaming thread.
Only use was as a door stop.
That wobbly 16k RAM pack!!   >:( Grrr...

Think I might have had the one after the rubber keyed monster; distinctly remember fine-tuning one of those portable cassette decks but not a memory pack  ??? Can barely remember last week, but have fond memories of a lot of the old Ultimate games on that. Oh, and Jet Pac (I think :/)

If anyone has any links for in-depth reviews/previews of either console could they be a doll and post them?

Will trawl, but feedback appreciated if anybody's already been discerning and looked into it prior to making their decision(s).
