Fifa 17
« on: June 13, 2016, 06:59:31 am »
So we now there is a new engine coming after years of this one, but the latest trailer makes me wonder if it's going to be some sort of GTA / FIFA hybrid game!

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=P9LHzVEPodg

Guess we may learn more when E3 happens soon.

Yeah - I was watching that livestream & saw the other trailer too. Decent face scans (& supposed new emotions too) and would be keen to see the 'improved impact engine'. Apparently the Frostbite engine is supposed to improve. We know that can do with an improvement!

And then you see this ... as one of the limited edition kits:

Howdy Glad! Hope all is well mate.

Yeah - the new images of Twitter re: Juve ... looks pretty impressive. I guess that, together with licenses means it's another year of FIFA ...

OK ...

So this ...
Drill that header downwards! New Attacking Techniques in #FIFA17!
.. and ...
Bury that ball in the bottom corner thanks to the NEW driven shot mechanic in #FIFA17!
... doesn't sound too bad.

But this ...
Put through balls on the money with the NEW Driven Through Ball mechanic in #FIFA17!

... sounds way too ominous ... !

Driven through balls hammered in constantly by full backs diagonally in towards Aubameyang. We're going to have fun with that!

Yeah ... back to the age-old issue where short/long passing is meaningless. Let's make something OP so the delinquents can abuse their parent's credit cards cause they're winning with this mentality.

FIFA 17 features many firsts for the franchise, among them is the use of the Frostbite™ Engine to power the game. We talked with FIFA Technical Director Ed Kilham to find out what Frostbite brings to the FIFA franchise on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

For those that don't know, what is Frostbite™?

Frostbite is the tech platform that powers many of EA’s games including Battlefield™, Need For Speed™ and FIFA 17.

When did the team decide to move to Frostbite for EA SPORTS FIFA?

The decision to move to Frostbite happened before I arrived on FIFA. The team has worked for more than two years with FIFA 17 and the Frostbite engine.

Why is it important that FIFA 17 uses the Frostbite engine?

The overarching goal is to leverage the abilities of many of our game teams to produce an engine that delivers world-class games. For FIFA, the move to Frostbite allows us to develop new features that were not supported by the previous engine including the new cinematic story mode in FIFA 17, The Journey.

What were some of the challenges moving from our previous game engine to Frostbite?

Software transitions are more difficult than Hardware transitions. Moving from EA SPORTS IGNITE to Frostbite required the team to learn the new technology platform, to adapt the platform to the specific needs of FIFA and to push the new platform to allow FIFA to do both the things it has done superbly in the past as well as innovate in new and exciting ways.

Where there any surprises during development? Anything that you guys could do now but couldn't in the past?

Empowering content creators with the tools within Frostbite has allowed for a new level of collaborative development between the creative and technical groups within FIFA. Looking at FIFA 17, we're pretty excited about the power of Frostbite and maybe a bit surprised at just how much it can unlock for the teams.

Frostbite is part of our new story mode, The Journey. Can you share how the mode uses the engine?

It takes FIFA players to places they have never been before, including new environments that showcase true-to-life action with lighting, rendering, and schematics. It also gives the team here the ability to bring to life characters that are full of depth and emotion.

what do you think of this change? I know that the ignite engine switch in FIFA14 did only bring pain. This could be a return to the FIFA12 & 13 gameplay

I do think it's a great change - visually. Already, some of the face scans looks even more impressive.

Game play though ... not too sure how much that will be impacted. I understand this is more around visuals - ability to look at a locker room, walk around there, etc. - thus supporting the new mode.

They say all this "improved intelligence" and "better runs and attacking positioning" every single year. Fullbacks, Centre Backs and Goalkeepers will still be stupid in comparison, kids will have no clue how to defend themselves, they'll moan, EA will get scared of pack sales falling, a patch will appear and the game will have changed back to Fifa 15. Same thing happens literally every year.

On the dodgy defending position AI if you leave them to sort themselves out......
