Yeah Eric - some games do end up being a bit ... erm ... FIFA-like? The expression/comment on the kid's face when he conceded an 89th min goal was quite pretty funny.

In training I'm trying to curve the ball more. On the iPad it's relatively easy to get 6-8 stars. I try get into a bit of a rhythm - especially with penalties. I don't bother about the top ones or anything like that. Short jab-like swipes just to get the ones in the middle or close to.

Still on top after 17 games, but my midfield is only about 60-70% fit - even after an 8-hr layoff. Stadium is also upgraded now too. Got a little over 6600 attendance last game.

There is by no means instant gratification (unless you spend some real cash - lots of it too) ... and that's good!

Eric ... saw a 73-rated keeper :o ... top bid was 571k!

... and a 63-rated striker for 1.29M!

Damn!

Holy cr@p Kiwi, its nuts isnt it.  Will we ever be able to compete at that level without putting real money in?  do we need to given we dont play against other human opponents?  I dont know.

Rather than spend my 50k odds on an average player, I've done the same as you and developed a couple of extra stands.   Wait 24 hours roughly for those to be built.   What benefits do you get from that?  higher coin yield from matches????  sure as heck hope so.

Yeah mate. It is crazy.

Yup - you do get the extra revenue. I think we're going to have to spend a little at least. I see that when you buy a gold pack, you get a commercial manager which gives you 150% of gate receipts. That's $2.50 for me & probably will do it given that I'm just scraping by every game now with no coins left for upgrades and barely affording the upgrade to the keeper after each game.

Man, they do make it tempting to buy it.

Yeah i know what you're saying :)  it has crossed my mind on occasion that to buy just one wouldnt do any harm.  I mean hey if you enjoy it its only like you say $2 or whatever, beats buying fifa packs.   Just got up today and my stadium upgrades are complete, nice 10k capacity now.  Have watched some vids, not that many, and actually have about 5k shy of what i had prior to upgrading.

Im back on track for promotion now, sitting 2nd after about 22 games or maybe a few more.   Got my sights sets on Trabzon in 1st place.  Funnily enough when they beat me earlier in the season they had a player called Yilmaz that scored against me.

Just going back to the staff thing and how you said you were saving for a nutrionist, how you getting on with that?  cos if im right they cost like 200 gold bars and thats one thing that seems really hard to accumulate, i think i still have around 55 despite having been playing the game for quite a bit.

It must be a good game tho cos its the first thing i done when i got up today lol.

It is good & likewise, checked it first thing & kept checking it :D. Enjoyed this heaps more than FIFA Career Mode ::)!

On the nutritionist, yeah - 200 gold :o. Will only be able to get it after spending real cash. You get a bonus 25 when you buy a pack. So, 150 plus that and 65 in the kitty (33 games played) will make it.

Might just really splurge out and pay $6.49 for 500 gold. Call me Big Spender :P.

One negative aspect that I picked up - I do think the game is really geared to spending lots of cash. The kid took a different approach - didn't upgrade players & focused upgrading his stadium. Has a capacity now of 16,000 however his first home game still got similar coins from match receipts (attendance was still around the 7.5k mark). Discussion around reputation might be low still - who knows.

Once again, buying a pack & getting that 50% bonus there will probably be more meaningful.

I have constantly upgraded players - across the board. Keeper is now 38 rated and have checked the market for similar (35 = 114k, 38 = 128k, 42 = 122k, 36 = 125k). Considering to sell him off & buy a cheap reserve, then use the coins to focus on my other keeper (21 rated).

Think this may be the option to get some more coins quicker, without spending. In a way I'm more keen on this approach - prove that I can do it without 'buying my way' in the game.

Ah ... one last thing. Another reason not to buy anything as yet, is to see what rewards there are (if any) after the season ends.

Yeah agreed! how far are you in now?  Im on 25 games.   Had a look at what was available purchase wise, and if you are going to buy 150 gold bars, well you are as well paying 2x the amount to get 500 i would say.   But no rush at moment to do anything like that.

Played a game earlier and applied a few player upgrades, got to wait 40 mins till my next match :o  I thought the upgrades were able to be queued in the background.  Obviously not.   I reckon if i sold my keeper on the market id get a fair few bob for him, he's young (19/20) and ive upgraded him a lot, has some solid stats.   Not planning to sell him however.

Browsing stadium upgrades and accidentally upgraded the south stand again for another 6k capacity, need to make sure i dont do that whilst hovering over the 'elite' stadiums lol.

oops my bad, I never saw your 1st message there before posting mine, just saw the short one.   So yeah you already considered the coin thing. Let me go back and read it properly now lol.  I noticed you said the kid is upto 16k capacity now, thats what mine will be once the upgrades are done.

whats the quick way to see your players rating?  not sure if thats a stupid question but i dont see it jumping out at me when im on the upgrade screen.   Ive only seen it when viewing the transfer market and it tells you rating of your best players in that position

4 games to play and 4 points clear - been a struggle though. Guess the opposition is as inconsistent as me. Started amazingly well - 8 wins in a row and 36 goals scored. Then scored 35 goals in the next 17 matches :)

I've also accidentally upgraded the stadium too like that :D

Yeah - only when you look at the market. But, only showing the best 2 players is kinda annoying for DF and MF. For for the guys on the bench - you candy send them to the market, click on them to see their rating, the send the back again.

Out of interest what are you say strikers names?  pretty sure it wont be generic but curious anyway.   My star striker is Proschwitz, ably supported by Saimon, but brought on my sub striker and has been upgraded a bit as well called Salama and he's been lethal too, even scored an overhead kick in one game :o (from a cross)    Just beat Monaco 4-0 away from home, pleased with that, form has gone back to excellent and top of the league by 1 point after 26 games :D

Funny thing is im enjoying this game more than Football Manager lol.   Should sell FM14 and spend the proceeds on upgrades for this :D

Nice one mate. Yeah, strangely the simplicity of it with the minimal involvement during the actual game, is ideal.

Strikers are Ahid & Mertens - 25 & 24-rated players. Have done well but no bicycle kicks as yet. :D

Am off to bed now - keen to hear how you go. Cheers.

Ah cool, i thought they would be random.  Obviously utilising some real players names with likes of Yilmaz and Mertens etc, which is another nice touch.

I think we need to convert some more forumers :)  Cuz has an iPhone sure he would like this (or at least i think he does)

I will need to use the next 8 hours catching up with you, dont know how i let you get ahead of me in games :D

This is my team ratings - well what i can get from transfer market.

GK - Dambos, Age   Rating 31
DF - Radovanovic Age 24, Rating 20
DF - Bombel Age 18, Rating 20
MF - Theuer Age 21, Rating 25
MF - Neji Age 18, Rating 17
FW - Proschwitz, Age 20, Rating 22
FW - Salama, Age 20, Rating 22
FW - Saimon, Age 21 Rating 20.

Worth noting that some of these guys have upgrades (already paid for) pending so ratings will go up fairly soon.   I think they can maybe only do one upgrade at a time after a match so have a fair few queued.  I guess thats until you buy another coach or something.

It's a very similar concept to new star soccer but from s different perspective. In nss you start out as a young footballer and have to progress your skills which helps you to move to bigger clubs, I'm currently playing in serie A.

I'm also playing dragon age, which is a very simplistic fantasy game but is proving very addictive.
