Title: Other Games
Post by: Kiwi on January 23, 2014, 06:45:56 am
Don't know if there was a previous topic like this, but really not going to bother trying to find it anyway.

Saw this re: Tom Clancy: The Division. Previous (game play) footage has already been impressive. These screenshots are pretty damn good!

Not going to link them in here as the page will just be way too wide

Cool, will have a look in a bit Kiwi.

Have you seen the featured game on the xbox home page called Max:  The Curse of Brotherhood?  Basically looks like a next gen version of that Limbo game.   Its £11.99 as well, so arcade priced.   Had a look at the vid of it earlier, the graphics look awesome in a nice cartoony way, worth a look, im actually tempted to get it.

Ah - I've not seen it but the kid mentioned he 'knows about it'.

Agreed - 'arcade' price ... good to see it.

Anyone with an iPhone should give this game a try that i stumbled upon today, its called Football Kicks: Title Race.   Its quality so far, free to play on iOS and very addictive can buy players, train players, upgrade stadium, and the best bit in old school spectrum gaming style is that you take part in matches in similar fashion to the game 'Striker' from back in the day.   Honestly give it a try im loving it and neglecting Football Manager as a result, and the xbox at the moment lol.   You can of course buy premium content or whatever you want to call it but i seem to be getting by just fine without touching any of that.

It sounds like the game on Spectrum, Footballer Of The Year. Anyone remember that? You would get between 1 and 3 chances to score ever match you played. You had to buy chance cards and also random things would happen that gave or took away credits to buy the cards. If you were doing well you could get transferred. Got to be mid to late 1980s that one!

yeah in matches all you do is take chances by swiping your finger where you want to shoot, very satisfying :)  Ive won 4/4 so far and top the league.   You take free kicks and pens as well, not noticed anything else so far.   You cant do anything to stop the opposition scoring but hey you dont wanna be too involved.

The presentation looks fantastic as well i have to say.   At the start you name your team and design your teams strips and badge.  Does seem like theres been a fair bit of effort put into the development of this game.   Just hope it keeps me interested and doesnt just hit a dead end after a full season or anything like that.

Just smashed Seattle 6-2, they really had no answer to my prolific finishing.   4 goals from my star striker Proschwitz

Had to make a couple crosses in that game as well, by swiping finger again, so its not just about the shooting

That's pretty good Eric. Addictive stuff.

Can see how they make their money though :o :o. Lots of real $$$ for the 'virtual coins' and 'gold bars'. I'm playing on the iPad as the phone was just too small - got the kid playing on there :D.

Like the interaction with the transfer market too. Nifty stuff.

Top of the table after 8 games averaging 4.5 goals/game. But, got to give them a rest now, they're all knackered.

Yeah its good fun eh.  I got stuck last night cos my players as one of my players had got injured.   Im trying to find ways of playing it so that I dont have to pay real money for anything.   Ie when you have to wait for training to take effect and so on, ill just wait, not fussed about using my supply of gold bars/coins to speed things along.

Oh but on the injury, I didnt think i had any reserves so was on transfer market trying to bid for young, fairly average players with my 45k coins, kept getting outbid tho, didnt see that the auctions were on a timer as such.   The 'World Transfer' tab seemed like a live auction (ie buying from other players) could be mistaken tho.  Anyway after sitting idle trying to buy a reserve defender for 15 mins, I realised that i actually did have some reserves (and you will have too)  so you can just sub them in for the low condition players.  Just about to get back on it lol.

Had to watch i didnt accidetnally pay the £9.99 for a premium stadium like the Emirates lol.   That would be a disaster.

Just spent a few minutes alternating between the 2 devices. Some of those training exercises on the iPhone is so small!

Also didn't realise that there was a bench, at first. The kid mentioned it first & then I realised that you could send them to the 'transfer list' as such. They show up in the 'reserves' section, so it's nice to see what they are worth as well as their rating.

Agreed on the bit around it being a live auction with real people. Cool idea actually. Seeing some players around the 220k mark for a 45-50 rated player.

I accidentally used up heaps of coins upgrading some areas of the stadium. Got to wait another 4-odd hours for that to complete :).

Not using the gold bars - need to save up to buy the nutritionist to speed up their recovery.

Im alright with the training stuff, if i get 2-4 stars spirit i figure thats enough.   I do find the penalties quite hard.   Also when it comes to matches the crossing can be tricky but im getting the hang of it.

Dropped to 3rd in the league after losing to a title rival.   Even for the 1st time used the attacking boost at half time when i was 2 down but to no avail.   had couple of chances but the Trabzon keeper was playing like a TOTY card, diving across the goal to save my goalbound shots.   Dam.  Never mind sitting in 3rd position now so still in promotion spots.

Dammit Kiwi they start making you shoot from outside the box with bodies in the way,  im struggling now, on a bad run of form and dropped out the promotion places :o
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: Kiwi on January 26, 2014, 06:31:22 am
Yeah Eric - some games do end up being a bit ... erm ... FIFA-like? The expression/comment on the kid's face when he conceded an 89th min goal was quite pretty funny.

In training I'm trying to curve the ball more. On the iPad it's relatively easy to get 6-8 stars. I try get into a bit of a rhythm - especially with penalties. I don't bother about the top ones or anything like that. Short jab-like swipes just to get the ones in the middle or close to.

Still on top after 17 games, but my midfield is only about 60-70% fit - even after an 8-hr layoff. Stadium is also upgraded now too. Got a little over 6600 attendance last game.

There is by no means instant gratification (unless you spend some real cash - lots of it too) ... and that's good!
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: Kiwi on January 26, 2014, 10:56:08 am
Eric ... saw a 73-rated keeper :o ... top bid was 571k!

... and a 63-rated striker for 1.29M!

Damn!

Holy cr@p Kiwi, its nuts isnt it.  Will we ever be able to compete at that level without putting real money in?  do we need to given we dont play against other human opponents?  I dont know.

Rather than spend my 50k odds on an average player, I've done the same as you and developed a couple of extra stands.   Wait 24 hours roughly for those to be built.   What benefits do you get from that?  higher coin yield from matches????  sure as heck hope so.
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: Kiwi on January 26, 2014, 01:03:07 pm
Yeah mate. It is crazy.

Yup - you do get the extra revenue. I think we're going to have to spend a little at least. I see that when you buy a gold pack, you get a commercial manager which gives you 150% of gate receipts. That's $2.50 for me & probably will do it given that I'm just scraping by every game now with no coins left for upgrades and barely affording the upgrade to the keeper after each game.

Man, they do make it tempting to buy it.
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: EricCartman No1 on January 26, 2014, 09:53:46 pm
Yeah i know what you're saying :)  it has crossed my mind on occasion that to buy just one wouldnt do any harm.  I mean hey if you enjoy it its only like you say $2 or whatever, beats buying fifa packs.   Just got up today and my stadium upgrades are complete, nice 10k capacity now.  Have watched some vids, not that many, and actually have about 5k shy of what i had prior to upgrading.

Im back on track for promotion now, sitting 2nd after about 22 games or maybe a few more.   Got my sights sets on Trabzon in 1st place.  Funnily enough when they beat me earlier in the season they had a player called Yilmaz that scored against me.

Just going back to the staff thing and how you said you were saving for a nutrionist, how you getting on with that?  cos if im right they cost like 200 gold bars and thats one thing that seems really hard to accumulate, i think i still have around 55 despite having been playing the game for quite a bit.

It must be a good game tho cos its the first thing i done when i got up today lol.
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: Kiwi on January 26, 2014, 10:35:37 pm
It is good & likewise, checked it first thing & kept checking it :D. Enjoyed this heaps more than FIFA Career Mode ::)!

On the nutritionist, yeah - 200 gold :o. Will only be able to get it after spending real cash. You get a bonus 25 when you buy a pack. So, 150 plus that and 65 in the kitty (33 games played) will make it.

Might just really splurge out and pay $6.49 for 500 gold. Call me Big Spender :P.

One negative aspect that I picked up - I do think the game is really geared to spending lots of cash. The kid took a different approach - didn't upgrade players & focused upgrading his stadium. Has a capacity now of 16,000 however his first home game still got similar coins from match receipts (attendance was still around the 7.5k mark). Discussion around reputation might be low still - who knows.

Once again, buying a pack & getting that 50% bonus there will probably be more meaningful.

I have constantly upgraded players - across the board. Keeper is now 38 rated and have checked the market for similar (35 = 114k, 38 = 128k, 42 = 122k, 36 = 125k). Considering to sell him off & buy a cheap reserve, then use the coins to focus on my other keeper (21 rated).

Think this may be the option to get some more coins quicker, without spending. In a way I'm more keen on this approach - prove that I can do it without 'buying my way' in the game.

Ah ... one last thing. Another reason not to buy anything as yet, is to see what rewards there are (if any) after the season ends.

Yeah agreed! how far are you in now?  Im on 25 games.   Had a look at what was available purchase wise, and if you are going to buy 150 gold bars, well you are as well paying 2x the amount to get 500 i would say.   But no rush at moment to do anything like that.

Played a game earlier and applied a few player upgrades, got to wait 40 mins till my next match :o  I thought the upgrades were able to be queued in the background.  Obviously not.   I reckon if i sold my keeper on the market id get a fair few bob for him, he's young (19/20) and ive upgraded him a lot, has some solid stats.   Not planning to sell him however.

Browsing stadium upgrades and accidentally upgraded the south stand again for another 6k capacity, need to make sure i dont do that whilst hovering over the 'elite' stadiums lol.

oops my bad, I never saw your 1st message there before posting mine, just saw the short one.   So yeah you already considered the coin thing. Let me go back and read it properly now lol.  I noticed you said the kid is upto 16k capacity now, thats what mine will be once the upgrades are done.

whats the quick way to see your players rating?  not sure if thats a stupid question but i dont see it jumping out at me when im on the upgrade screen.   Ive only seen it when viewing the transfer market and it tells you rating of your best players in that position
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: Kiwi on January 26, 2014, 11:04:48 pm
4 games to play and 4 points clear - been a struggle though. Guess the opposition is as inconsistent as me. Started amazingly well - 8 wins in a row and 36 goals scored. Then scored 35 goals in the next 17 matches :)

I've also accidentally upgraded the stadium too like that :D

Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: Kiwi on January 26, 2014, 11:07:53 pm
Yeah - only when you look at the market. But, only showing the best 2 players is kinda annoying for DF and MF. For for the guys on the bench - you candy send them to the market, click on them to see their rating, the send the back again.

Post by: EricCartman No1 on January 26, 2014, 11:10:30 pm
Out of interest what are you say strikers names?  pretty sure it wont be generic but curious anyway.   My star striker is Proschwitz, ably supported by Saimon, but brought on my sub striker and has been upgraded a bit as well called Salama and he's been lethal too, even scored an overhead kick in one game :o (from a cross)    Just beat Monaco 4-0 away from home, pleased with that, form has gone back to excellent and top of the league by 1 point after 26 games :D

Funny thing is im enjoying this game more than Football Manager lol.   Should sell FM14 and spend the proceeds on upgrades for this :D
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: Kiwi on January 26, 2014, 11:22:42 pm
Nice one mate. Yeah, strangely the simplicity of it with the minimal involvement during the actual game, is ideal.

Strikers are Ahid & Mertens - 25 & 24-rated players. Have done well but no bicycle kicks as yet. :D

Am off to bed now - keen to hear how you go. Cheers.
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: EricCartman No1 on January 27, 2014, 12:10:15 am
Ah cool, i thought they would be random.  Obviously utilising some real players names with likes of Yilmaz and Mertens etc, which is another nice touch.

I think we need to convert some more forumers :)  Cuz has an iPhone sure he would like this (or at least i think he does)

I will need to use the next 8 hours catching up with you, dont know how i let you get ahead of me in games :D

This is my team ratings - well what i can get from transfer market.

GK - Dambos, Age   Rating 31
DF - Radovanovic Age 24, Rating 20
DF - Bombel Age 18, Rating 20
MF - Theuer Age 21, Rating 25
MF - Neji Age 18, Rating 17
FW - Proschwitz, Age 20, Rating 22
FW - Salama, Age 20, Rating 22
FW - Saimon, Age 21 Rating 20.

Worth noting that some of these guys have upgrades (already paid for) pending so ratings will go up fairly soon.   I think they can maybe only do one upgrade at a time after a match so have a fair few queued.  I guess thats until you buy another coach or something.

It's a very similar concept to new star soccer but from s different perspective. In nss you start out as a young footballer and have to progress your skills which helps you to move to bigger clubs, I'm currently playing in serie A.

I'm also playing dragon age, which is a very simplistic fantasy game but is proving very addictive.

I did look this up in the App Store after you both waxed lyrical about it but I read the reviews ... They all pretty much said the same thing which is - great game, very enjoyable, then you get promoted & smashed each week unless your prepared to spend real money on IAP don't bother

That kinda put me off as I dislike purchasing 'upgrades' but it seemed these were more of a necessity than a luxury

Well I'm on brink of promotion so I'll see how it goes, in fact mathematically I'm already up first just going thru last few games.  Have watched some vids to get coins and some of other games look quite decent too so may try them out if this goes downhill fast after going up
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: Kiwi on January 27, 2014, 06:39:29 am
Does sound ominous.

One thing on the reviewers & not to sound negative towards them or even justifying my liking the game - were these the ones that wanted instant gratification & wanted to get promoted year one year automatically?

It would probably be the same if people were reviewing UT seasons, saying that they should automatically win D1 the moment they have been promoted to from D10.

Don't want to sound like everything replicates RL as close as possible, but it would be a good touch (more realistic) to actually struggle in the next division.

Nice ones Eric - I'll check my players too and see what they look like.

I may have a reason to create a Facebook account :P.

Yeah I also wd reserve judgement on that as these reviewers cd be kids or maybe kiwi puts it better.  I mean I don't expect back to back promotions necessarily.  Usually when a team goes up the first aim is to consolidate and not go back down.  Anyway I've one game to go in the division which is due shortly so will let you know how it goes.

Ok quick update.  Played 2 games, won first one lost 2nd and didn't have great chance to win it.  Got more coin than ever ~90k but problems now, seems like my entire team is f*cked, really need a nutritionist but can't afford one.  Had a def on bench for a gd few games but doesn't seem to be recovering fitness.  Will see what I can do later but maybe I have hit something of a dead end for now.  Cd no doubt buy a new player with my coin but way it looks I prob need 2 or 3.  Hmm.

Lol have the wheels came off already.  Well after a bit of a break, travelled down to Swansea for a training course at work for this week, i went back on it and my players were reasonably fit so subbed in my slightly better players and tried again.   Not done too well, lost my next couple matches, you really really have to take your chances at this level, div 4 lol, and some of them are bloody hard too, a good bit further away or about 3 bodies immediately in front of you, not much room for error.   Lol just gonna persevere anyway and try not to get relegated.   The other thing ive noticed is that your opponents have more spirit than in div 5, which might or might not make a difference.

As im not caring a whole lot i went into my last match with no practice, so no spirit, lost 3-1, didnt take my chances, blah blah blah.   Yep played about 6 games now and its not looking good, sat in relegation zone, but its hard when ive probably not been able to field my best lineup fully fit in any given game.   Meh, anyways knackered now will see what to do tomorrow.

Post by: Kiwi on January 27, 2014, 09:53:51 pm
Didn't play at all during the day today. Just got on and decided to see what D4 would be like. However, I stupidly decided to upgrade players beforehand. Did not realise that the upgrade on the keeper would take 45 min :o. Not impressed.

Also, I see that the points required for 'spirit' have increased to 8 k now. Ok then. Managed to get 7 - not bad to my opponent's 3 and playing at an upgraded home stadium (16k capacity), I thought I had a chance. Nope - lost 1-3. Still, first game of the season ...

Decided to practice and play another quickly - opponent is Genova - they were promoted with me. At home again and spirit was 6 vs his 1 thus looking for a good performance. Missed a cross dismally, but found some form to win 3-1 with a pretty poor miss from my side - would've been nice to get the 4th.

Was happy to win but think that the opponent was weak in comparison to the first one. I can definitely start to see that in app purchases will have to be made to do a lot better. One thing that will frustrate me will be the time taken for the higher end upgrades to the players ... 45 min is just way too long IMO. And this is around that 40% of the attribute done.

Without speeding that up  it will be like playing one game, maybe 2 per day!

Thanks for the headsup Sherlock on NSS - will try it out.

Quick one re NSS ... Great game, thanks Sherlock. Initially thought I had downloaded the bring app. But there is a lot to this game!

Played 4 games - unfortunately one I wasn't picked for as my energy was too low. Thought I could 'energy up' before but the boss didn't pick me & was furious. Oops.

Game after next I got 5 assists and a headed goal. Rating was 10.0. This can really get quite addictive.

Ok so football kicks has died a bit of a death for me at the moment due to whats previously been discussed.   I looked up that NSS game but the reviews on that say the same thing, was great fun but now developer gone down 'freemium' route and you have to pay 69p every couple of days to stay in the game.

I dont like being sheperded into paying money for stuff i have no real intention of paying money for.  Might have to look around try find some other good games for the phone that dont try to siphon your hard earned cash off you.   Im not a child, these tactics dont work on me lol.   Will look for something else and check reviews before downloading.

Might try an RPG, hack n slash style game, might give that Dragon Age a try.

Not altogether dead Eric.

Interesting one that I focused on upgrading players during season 1 & that might've paid dividends. After 4 games (played 2 this morning) sitting mid-table (2-0-2).

Still not getting the people through the turnstiles though - capacity of 16,000 but no more than 8,500 attendance. Had about 40k before the last player-upgrades and the keeper around the 40 rating.

Will probably keep trying it given not much too lose. Just won't be able to zoom through a season in 2 days, given the duration of those player upgrades. In the immortal words of Yoda ... Patience you must have ...

Re: NSS ... wow! Hopefully Sherlock can confirm the 'stay in' fee. That's freakin' nuts to have that in play.
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: EricCartman No1 on January 28, 2014, 07:25:24 am
Yeah not altogether dead for me either I'll try to keep going.  Sat bottom of the league after. 7 or so games. I think part of problem is the practice is harder and I can't be bothered as much with it, always try to get a couple stars but cba doing all 3 available practice games.  I should try buy a new player to help out but prices probably too high for them to be gd enough to improve my team.  Maybe I should just keep upgrading players.

Games have been tough tho said it before but you really have to take your chances and often they are bloody hard 25 yard efforts thru a heap of bodies, I say hard but I mean nigh on impossible
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: EricCartman No1 on January 28, 2014, 09:02:40 am
getting ever closer to being dead tho, last game a perfect example.  I scored with all 2 of my chances.   Only thing was my opponent,  Pamplona, scored 5 out of the 5 they got.   This is a common theme, the opponents seem to score with every chance.

Going into that game my team had 7 spirit to my opponents 4, and not to mention i was the home team.   There is nothing you can do in those circumstances.  I dont mind adversity but like i said in my previous post, thats just mission impossible.
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: Kiwi on January 28, 2014, 09:29:45 am
Yeah - do understand. Last game - very similar situation (at home, superior spirit) and was 0-3 down before HT - same scenario of all 3 of their attempts going in. Managed to score 3 in the 2nd half myself but his 4th killed it off.

Onto the general theme of addictiveness of games. Wife mentioned to me that the creator of Candy Crush went to a psychologist with the specific intention of understanding addictive tendencies. I've never played it so have no clue what the game is about. So, I cannot comment on how good the app is, but they've certainly built their app well enough given their success.

In comparison to this one, they've obviously gone for the need for IAP way too early. That first season they made it impossible not to get promoted, but then dump you into a black hole to purchase your way out of. We are simply not addicted to the game at this stage, to remotely justify those purchases.

When I got my first iPhone 4-5 years ago I remember playing one of the poker games. At one stage I was possibly 3rd/4th of the world leaderboard ... simple addiction got me there. Maybe spent $1/2 every 3rd/4th day for maybe a month before I had sufficient 'capital' to sustain me and climb the ranking. It was crazy how cool the game was & the success in there just drove the justification of spending real money.

Obviously I've learnt since then :D. These guys have missed that boat in terms of EVER spending $1 on them given how they've programmed the game.

yeah i agree Kiwi, and i sit here now very glad that i hadnt given into the temptation of buying 150 or 500 gold bars, because Id have felt like a bit of a mug now for lining the developers pocket, and i dont get the impression that having spent that money, would hugely change the predicament that my team finds itself in now.

Smashed again 5-2, getting nowhere now.  So spent my whole 100k on upgrading stadium lol, should be at near 30k capacity when its done, shame my team is garbage but at least i get something to show for the coin lol

Glad I waited on both of you to confirm the reviews before I jumped in

I suspected that this might be the case though as I am old school when it comes to games I don't mind putting in the hard work to get the rewards above paying to get them but you shouldn't have to pay

Maybe the game shouldn't be a free one?

I think we all are in here (old school) but id like to think that even younger generation (not nec. kids) would feel the same in this scenario.

It did open my eyes to playing games on the phone.  I had wrote them off before as not being in depth enough to grab my attention but this has shown me that they can actually be.   However if it seems like the sole purpose of the game is to get my hard earned money off me they can just forget it.

Played a few online games of NBA 2k14 on the Blacktop last night - it's called the park for you next gen types

Lost all 6 but my teammates (random players) all sucked - trying to score from silly distances, my scoring percentage was nearly 75% from all attempted baskets but my teammates were poor

the blacktop?? confused lol, ive not tried the park at all.

just been playing my career, and its good but i have 2 qualms with it.  first one is that the games take bloomin forever to play.   2nd one is that despite having played it for what seems like ages, apparently i still have 28 games of the season to go, thats ridiculous!!! especially given how long the games take, god knows when ill actually finish my season.

Yeah apparently park ball is traditionally played on black asphalt hence the blacktop as opposed to the pristine wooded gym floor

Got my first couple of wins on the blacktop tonight, it's quite like playing a drop in game of pro clubs with a much bigger emphasis on teammates skill & mentality

3v3 is basically a case of your screw'd if you get the selfish brat who wants to score 3pt baskets all the time
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: EricCartman No1 on February 03, 2014, 09:13:18 am
I'll give it a try at some point and see how it is.   Can definitely see how some ball greedy tw@t would spoil it.  Do you play with your own pro then?  I gave up on being a 3 pt specialist a long time ago.  As i opted to be a center and a big guy, my player is built for low post offence (i think thats correct term) and rebounds etc.   Missed several 3 points in the early stages of my career so just stopped trying for them and spending points on those skills, I specialise in the easy baskets :)

Yeah own Pro, I think it's actually easier to score than career as everyone seems to suck at defending online  :D

However occasional you come up against a superstar & I must admit it's pretty cool to see a great player first hand

Nice do you need to sign upto it? Guess you must.  Wonder if this could affect my utilisation of bf premium, not used it much yet but was away for a week.

Still plugging away on football manager.  My top young South American prospects have came good.  I'm in the dam CL final vs juve, knocking out Man U and Bayern en route.  Proud doesn't even begin to describe it lol

Announced on 27 Jan - http://www.titanfall.com/news/titanfall-beta

LOL on the FM side. I must say that it's easier to get my 'football kicks' out of UT still. Those NR teams makes it easier just to quit when the game is laggy (did so when 1-0 up today - didn't care).

Been a while since I had any kicks from FIFA.  It's just when I go to play something it's pretty much bottom of the list and with new games coming soon, I'm not sure I see that changing.  Might try a game sometime, I guess when you break any bad habit, you are always wary of revisiting it lol.

Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: Kiwi on February 12, 2014, 10:04:08 pm
Mentioned the kid is playing Clash of Clans. This is quite astonishing ...

Clash of Clans maker Supercell turned out an extremely impressive financial performance in 2013 with $464 million in pre-tax profits on revenue of $892 million. That was four times the profit and eight times the revenues of 2012 figures.

The Helsinki, Finland-based mobile game company reported the figures on an annual basis, as required by Finnish law. (Supercell received a government loan when it was formed in 2010). The $464 million in earnings before income tax, depreciation, and amortization showed that the company has its costs well under control and that it is still going strong with just two games: Clash of Clans and Hay Day. Supercell paid $345 million in taxes to Finland in 2013, largely because it received an investment from Japan’s SoftBank.

SoftBank shook the gaming world up last year after it bought 50 percent of Supercell, which had just 130 employees at the time, for $1.5 billion. That value Supercell at $3 billion, or twice the value of U.S. publicly traded game company Take-Two Interactive, publisher of Grand Theft Auto. That was an astonishing outcome for a company founded by Ilkka Paananen, a veteran mobile game maker, in June 2010.

The fact that it's valued at twice the size of Take-Two (even if that's a crude comparison), really puts it into perspective how huge the mobile gaming platform is. Absolutely crazy!

Its not my usual preferred type of game but tomb raider is absolutely quality! From the story line to the outstanding graphics to the gameplay. Really helped me rediscover my love for single player games. Took me back to how gaming used to be.

Has anyone got any other recommendations of single player games on next gen? I was thinking along the lines of assassins creed, thief and metalgear - Cant wait for that badboy :)

Sheesh - forgot to respond to a few here.

@Eric ... yeah - in app purchases galore. Suppose it's the same as ... erm ... the game we tried (too lazy to scroll up). You can buy gems and gold (I think it's that) - pretty much the same concept whereby you speed up the progress of your buildings, conversions, raising armies (your typical RTS stuff). I suppose the cool part is that you are playing in an MMO, rather than against AI. When you're offline then people can attack you and steal your gold. Kid had something like 150k in gold but could not really spend it due to all 'items beng busy'. Lost about a 3rd of it overnight - nothing hugely irritating given that he cannot do anything. But ... it does show how IAP will make lots of kiddies want to speed things up.

@Jim ... The kid has had Assassin's Creed 4 since release. Is a really impressive game to look at! There was a distinct improvement visually from 360 & was good to see. Given that this had a pirate's theme to it (you spend something like 40% on sea) it will appeal if you like that aspect. Also, some of the previous releases could get a bit stale doing the same repetitive task over & over. This had a nice touch to it & will recommend it. Know that BB played it too & spent a lot of time on it.

Guarantee everyone is going to be playing Titanfall next month.  I was glued to watching the IGN coverage tonight and i never watch someone elses gameplay for that long.   Apart from great graphics and fresh concept, the pace of it reminded me of Quake 4 multiplayer and Unreal Tournament games.   Ill be preordering it tomorrow.

Could be the title that finally justifies the purchase of the Xbox One.  I mean BF4 is brilliant (obv not exclusive but still a stunning game 99% of time) but add Titanfall to that and suddenly next gen gaming has truly arrived.

Had a chance to play a few games of Titanfall and am very impressed, at first I was awfull but after a couple of games it all clicked. Unfortunately I won't be getting it as after just 4 games I started to get a headache and felt dizzy, every single fps seems to have this effect on me now, shame as I would definitely have bought it.

That's a pity Sherlock.  I maxed out my level last night, capped at level 14 for the beta, but that's not a problem still got some new kit to test out.

I do enjoy although I do have some mild reservations re gameplay.  Ok the first one that I thought last night was what actually stops Titan combat from becoming a glorified futuristic game of pass the parcel? With the shield ability to send bullets/rockets back at the other Titan who can then in turn do the same back to you until whoever a shield runs out first

Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: OfficerJimLahey on March 05, 2014, 08:58:13 am
Im pretty much throwing all my eggs in the titanfall basket tbh. Bad idea to put your eggs in EA's basket in all honesty but there you go. They'll probably all end up smashed and covered in ****, then they possibly they could ban the eggs and give them the finger after extorting loads of money out of them... Im not bitter towards EA or anything though, all water under the bridge :-[

I was looking in to getting MGS as well in fairness but im still confused as to whats happening with it Is it in two parts or is it the prologue that's out now or something?

Also curious about thief. it looks good from the trailers but doesn't look like much combat is involved?

The South Park game looks like it would be a laugh as well but im not getting my 360 out for it. I tossed that old thing aside in disgust like a used condom the moment my XB1 arrived
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: EricCartman No1 on March 05, 2014, 09:22:44 am
Yeah same, well dividing them between the Titanfall and BF4,having paid over £85 when i include the cost of premium.   So for that money i gotta really play it death, and to be fair I have been doing so, not that it translates into performance, im just a little pawn on the huge map of destruction that is conquest.  But its good fun.   By time summer comes round ill have squeezed my moneys worth out of it.  Its actually the only game ive been playing on XB1 for the last month, and only one i will till Titanfall comes out.

Had the odd notion to try that Max game, or some of the other cheaper ones, even thought Plants vs Zombies looked quite playable but not inclined to pay £30 for a game, when ill have Titanfall and the ongoing need to play BF4, theres only so much time i can put into gaming y'know.

Thief - got to admit ive not looked into it much, im not averse to stealth games but just not been drawn towards seriously considering buying that one.  Would have to get some great writeups before id even give it more thought.

Haha nice analogy on the 360 lol.   Id say i did the same but i still use it for Sky Go lol.  Not interested in any 360 games these days, hadnt even heard of the South Park one.

Oh MGS, another im going purely on name and have read nothing about, but strangely suspsicious of it due to the fact its being sold at £28 lol.   And another that will fall victim to the fact that Titanfalls out this month and i can only accommodate so many new games into my schedule at one time.  You get the picture :)
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: OfficerJimLahey on March 07, 2014, 06:02:58 pm
Lol I know what you mean mate. Usually the time you put in to something is reflected by skill, sadly its not the case for me either with battlefield. Im just the whipping boy on that no matter how hard I try :'( Id say in this case, progress definitely isn't linear.

Im pretty much the same tbh, with regards to not wanting to pay too much for a game as I know titanfall will be pretty much all I will play once I have it. I may consider a single player like MGS etc though as I really liked tomb raider.

Also the south park game is called; stick of truth. Does look like it'll be funny in fairness so may consider getting it for my laptop.

OT: just a quick one as well mate, what are the rules with regards to selling coins on here? Just about had enough of fifa and I have about 3.5 million to shift

See titanfall seems to be down to £37 on amazon, just noticed checking my order status today.  I thought £42 was a good price for it but really can't argue with £37, wonder why it's dropped.  Suppose there is still season pass to buy but still.

Not sure matey, when i orderd originally it was 42, that was no delivery charge and said guaranteed for day of delivery.  Just went back and checked it earlier and noticed the priced had changed, clicked the link and saw it was sure enough 37 for the game outright on amazon, and i know amazon have a price guarantee thing where they will refund you difference if price changes between ordering and delivery.  Still fully expect it to come friday, from experience they dispatch on thursday so not phased by fact its not been dispatched or the money taken off my account yet.

good luck, lots of people will tell you that x game they bought is the best thing ever.  Some people are easily satisifed remember.   I dont think I'd buy a game that scored less than 7.5 (on average) and tbh i'd want them to score over 8 unless there was a good reason why they didnt.

While infamous: Second Son is enjoyable, man is it a short game  :'( Managed to do all the main missions and side stuff within around 7/8 hours I'd say (majority of that side missions). Can't remember exactly but there must only be maximum 10 main missions in the whole game.

I loved it though, albeit short the graphics are terrific and so is the game play, decent story/motive for actions in the game but they definitely could have stretched it out some more.

Will play it through again this time doing the evil karma play through, so I suppose infamous always has that replayability in that to platinum the game you must complete it at least twice..

Carlos, could you give me an honest appraisal of the PS4 so far?  are you very impressed?  what are your gripes on the system?  any bugs that annoy you?

I love it Eric, I'm not a PS4 fan boy as such, for instance if the Xbox 1 was miles better then I'd buy it, wouldn't just stick with the PS for no reason.

The home screen is easy to roam around and looks really stylish, the menu music is actually great too, relaxes you just before you go and get frustrated with Fifa  :D The main reason I bought the PS4 was for the exclusives coming up, well infamous is already out now and Uncharted will be out soon, both brilliant series of games.

The controller was another reason I stuck with PS it's incredibly comfortable and I love the touch pad on it, Infamous was the first game I've played which used it and it was really cool actually, excited to see what they can do with it in future games.

I love that PS+ is a necessity now, some really cool free games come with it and they'll only get better as the console progresses. Obviously the graphics are great but they'll be pretty much the same on Xbox1.

Things that annoy me, hmm.. Battery life on the controller seems pretty off, feels like it needs charged more often than I use it, it's only ever frozen on me once but it just wouldn't turn off and after 10 minutes had to switch it off at the mains which was annoying. Apart from that no gripes really.

Actually another annoying thing is the switch to power on the PS4 or eject a disc from it, two 'touch' buttons just above each other but sometimes it feels impossible to press any of them properly  >:(

I said it before the consoles came out that I'd recommend choosing your console on either 1. Your friends have the same one or 2. Which exclusives you prefer (PS has Naughty Dog exclusives so will always win for me)

the tone of this discussion must be a touch concerning for PS4 owners tho?

Yeah one of the directors and one of the writers of Uncharted have left in the last month without much explanation of what is going on at Naughtydog  :o

Like those guys said E3 will be interesting to see where they are with Uncharted, most of it I've heard is due to financial reasons as Sony for a few years have had far more staff than they actually needed and approaching the end of the fiscal year the lay offs would make sense.

Could only wait and see though..

As for you switching to PS4, I couldn't recommend the PS4 highly enough, but again mate, only switch if you're interested in the exclusive/playing with more friends.

is that the on narrated by Liam Neeson? I have mixed feelings about that. Ive never been one for mortals and portals tbh. I bet its decent but I couldn't take the shame is someone caught me playing it lol

An extra £10 a month is a bit of a **** take although that may seem rich coming from a UT player. What is the extra cost for? Tbh for that money id want someone from the company (woman) to come round my house once a month n give me a happy ending massage whilst dressed as a troll. she can run the hoover around as well while she's there.

I dunno if he's involved or not?  I just feel like a different type of game, sick of getting my ass handed to me on BF4 at the moment, want something i can really get into, possibly keep me occupied for months or possibly not.  Bit fed up with shooters though so want to give it a try.

It does seem a bit of a pisstake but its following the MMORPG old format of WoW.   I never played it but apparently it was sooooo addictively good that they charged a monthly fee for that as well.   Im not sure if it will entitle you to free dlc for the lifespan of the game?  i think it does but not really sure.  As far as i know the first month might be free (whoop de doo).

I am very interested, I played wow for many years and had no issues with the extra subscription as the game provided many hours of enjoyment. If elder scrolls provides a similar level of enjoyment I would happily pay extra each month. I think it all comes down to the gameplay, they have a very good pedigree but building a game of this type is not easy, many big name companies have failed. I would hope they release a demo as it's a lot of money to pay for one month of gameplay if I don't like it.

I have started to play Infamous: Second Son (PS4 only). It is the third title in this franchise.

Great game so far! Very nice graphics. If this is the starting point of the next gen generation than I am curious how games will look like in 2/3 year time. The level of detail is simply breath taking already. Game play wise is feels very smooth. Controlling your power and making combo's are easy and look great. The AI of the enemy sometimes is a bit off. Did expect more resistance (currently playing on normal). First boss fight was relatively easy (died only once) .

Storyline is good, you are rally anxious to know 'what is next' although it is clear where the game will end. In the beginning you already are introduced to major bad guy (in this case woman)

Some side quests are worthwhile to do, audio logs really add to the game experience so far. Finding them is easy (hate to search for hours for pieces of information) so you keep momentum in the game.

all in all: good title and great first SP on the PS4 for me

Dunno what to do about consoles, still tempted to swap xbox for the ps4, might live to regret it, but got a niggle towards a change.   Only thing is im not selling if i dont get a decent offer and none have been forthcoming up till now.

Anyone tempted by Child of Light?  http://uk.ign.com/articles/2014/04/29/child-of-light-review

IGN seem to like it.  I think its a PS4 exclusive? but the IGN article clearly mentions it for Xbox One.

So decent games coming up, Watchdogs, Elder Scrolls online if you can be bothered with monthly fee and like MMORPG's, and also regrettably another EA game, the UFC game due out in June.   Any others to add to that?

Post by: Kiwi on May 29, 2014, 08:07:06 am
Ah yes ... have not posted about the kid's exploits as yet.

Watched him for about 30 min on day 1 - did look a bit ... erm ... weak - in the graphics department! Kinda wondering why the delays were there. Walking around scanning people, hacking their phones, or traffic lights to cause accidents, etc etc ... suppose it will get tedious, including the stomping around in a giant spider - looks pretty cool though :D. Seen one review where the walking/driving/shooting is likened to GTA - so basically an "already been done" comment.

Then ... I suppose their main drive may just be what they deliver from an online perspective. Embedding yourself in someone else's world, getting close to them & hacking them, then trying to get away - looked interesting. There were a few other modes too.

Yes - he's played a whole bunch of hours on each day ... so far. I'm sure it will be interesting for another few days / weeks - especially given our anti-FUT state. Past that though ... not sure. They will have to make the online experience more attractive.

Interesting, yeah i heard a review on the radio and the reviewer did touch on comments from players that the graphics werent as 'next gen' as people had been expecting.  I suppose that is a bit of a disappointment.   I am a touch sceptical about the whole hacking thing, hackings never been something ive been into employing much in games that ive played before so not sure how i will warm to a game that features it strongly throughout the game.

Any other games on the horizon you are interested in Kiwi?

Not at this stage mate. I must admit that I'm even more now anti-'new gen'. Suppose they did a great job of hyping it up & we got caught in that.

Think you've said it too before ... hindsight being what it is, we would've stuck with the 360 & got new controllers. Waited a full year to see what's new, real impact of new gen graphics - then bought one.

Just on the Watch Dogs / graphics - long ago we were playing games where the far away objects instantly appeared whilst exploring. This happens in the game & you really think that new gen graphics should surely cater for seeing a car as a speck (a kilometre away) & slowly growing. Not 'boom' ... there's the car 100 yds away. Poor.

I was thinking of getting Watch Dogs, but watching the review, it does look as though it would get repetitive quickly. Also a bit similar to GTA, which I struggled to get into this time around so will probably leave it. Will get back on GTA during the summer, but I don't have any new game purchases planned.
On the new gen, glad I didn't bother yet. It's always the case. Massive hype but not much delivered in the first year or two until they get to grips with developing for it and also lots of people still on Old gen. Will wait for the price to come down and more decent games to be released for it. Guess that Fifa 15 will still be almost identical again this year on both so will stick with PS3 for the foreseeable future.

hey Kiwi, yeah i hear you, ive actually just taken delivery of my new PS4 and Watchdogs today, got a good deal on it though as a relative used to work for Very so got 15% menaning the bundle cost £325 so not too bad.   Ive not had Watchdogs on yet, been installing some free games which as per the xbox have taken pretty much the whole night.   The first thing i notice about the PS4 is its a lot smaller and lighter than the xbox one, and the dam cables are a lot shorter too which is kinda annoying.   Will be interested to see if i find the graphics as disappointing as you mention, and ive got a feeling i will.    Also noticed the cost of a PS4 controller is £55 which is a touch obscene really.  Is that a common trend that accessories are more expensive than the Xbox?   Im not really complaining these are more just observations.

I'll be looking to get a good shot on Watchdogs tomorrow and see how i feel it measures up.  I definitely have got this impression though its not going to live upto the hype.  Not just Kiwi's comments but the score of 8.4 on IGN was lower than i was expecting for a game that was hyped up and had been 5 years in the making.

I've not even played it yet and im thinking about UFC and the upcoming Batman game lol.   Anyway need to try and not be too negative before i play it.

I've still got my 360 as well just cant be bothered buying a new controller for it.  I still have one that works but the LB doesnt work and it has to be chargin all time or it wont work.

Nice Eric. Would be good to hear some feedback on the 'transitional' experience. Especially interested to hear comments on the differences in controller.

I think with Watch Dogs there could be some really interesting stuff - kid was playing poker yesterday, hacking into cameras to see opponents cards as they take a peek. There was another scenario of inserting yourself into another user's game, trailing him & doing whatever is necessary (different to the other scenario).

But like TWS said too - there are aspects that have been done before & GTA V was such a massive hit, how could another game really compete. The technology angle is something to leverage off but how smart they get with that, is yet to be seen. Especially with all that hype & the delays, there should've been more to it!

Basically by not delivering a unique experience, they've indirectly admitted that the delays were merely technical issues & they were just not ready for a Nov '13 release. Which ... pisses me off as I (and the kid) was suckered!

There are certain things that sound really good, but is being able to see the info on every pedestrian in the game relavent to the gameplay in anyway or is 95% of it just pointless filler? My big worry about it would be that it is too repetitive, but then again so is facing BPL 41212 teams in FUT but we still put ourselves through the frustration/boredom!

Also is the PS4 much better than the xb1? Not that I have any interest in switching at any point though!
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: Kiwi on May 30, 2014, 10:03:14 am
Ok ... just quizzed the kid about Watch Dogs ... It's a longish one ...

He was busy with a mission trailing a suitcase - stealth required, etc. Need to watch out for people checking you out if you have your weapon out as they call the cops. Was entering a 'restricted zone' - where people will attack you. Hacked in & knocked out some lights, took out a guard with a silenced pistol. Before that though, he hacked into the surveillance system to see what was happening, let off a pressure valve on some pipe to distract a guard. This is part of a typical mission.

There are apparently a huge amount of missions / side missions - probably similar to GTA V. Something like a 100+ hours will be needed to complete these. They vary from shooting missions, to stealth (per above) to racing / chasing, etc. The side missions - stealing cars & get them to another location - with the least amount of damage (relates to amount you will earn). Another one is a criminal convoy routing the city which you can see. You need to stop it which means you need to set up an ambush & take them down.

Another comment, cops are deadly ... if you're being chased and they start shooting, you will die. They're very aggressive the moment you are not obeying. Choppers are hard to lose too.

Free roaming - you can see where potential crimes are going to be committed (probably likening to the 'Person of Interest' series here), where you can use your phone to profile the people in the area - showing potential victims / perpetrators. You need to survey & intervene at the right spot, all this adds to your reputation - positively (stopping a crime) or negatively. If you have a bad rep - you will get plenty air time on the news - being a vigilante & therefore people recognising you. Even gun stores may get aggressive if you have a bad rep - calling the cops or pulling a gun on you.

On the multi-player side, he mentioned it was laggy (apparently Uplay have issues) but it was a lot of fun. For example ... the whole of Chicago is a map - obviously a huge one. There are some areas, e.g. construction zone, that was turned into an offroad track, where MP races took place. There were 6 people who raced - they replayed it 5/6 times.

Suppose some may see this as a warm fuzzy post from a 15yo kid. I'll add that he's a far more mature gamer than most kids his age.

So far Watchdogs seems not bad but ive not played that much of it yet, i think tomorrow will be the main day for playing PS4, depend on the weather during day tho as it has been great today so not been indoors.

@Sherlock ... Not played Dragon Age on iOS, but did read up on the new iOS 8 that is being released (kid mentioned this to me too). Apparently the level of graphics coming to mobile is going to change drastically. Basically the general view is "this is the future of gaming".

Battery life is the one aspect that obviously needs serious addressing!

Finally got myself Playstation Plus. Been playing a lot of GTA5 the past few nights and getting Plus opens up my Burnout Paradise that I got for free after the PSN debacle a few years back, and Streets of Rage! Remember that?
NBA2k14 is free this week. That could be interesting. I know absolutely nothing about basketball, but doesn't it have a pack only UT mode? Could be time for some research for if FUT15 goes that way.

No coincidence that I've got this at a time when I can't play more than 2 or 3 games at a time of Fifa without wishing I wasn't.

Load up Burnout Paradise, straight away find one of the 4 out of 400 smash gates that we were unable to find three years ago (my girlfriend used to play it more than me!). Then I attempt to go online, thinking the server will probably have been long since taken down for a 5 year old game. A full lobby! That says it all about what a class racing same it is.

Far Cry 4 is one I'm really looking forward to. Far Cry 3 was so good but the improvements seem pretty logical and hopefully they won't have those 2 or 3 annoying as hell missions that I absolutely hated like the ink monster thing.

Definitely worth a go. It took me a while to get into too but once it all clicks and you get the hang of it and the controls, it's a superb game. Only negative is that there are a couple of really stupid and irritating missions but only a very minor minus.

played the beat of BF Hardline; to put i ssimple; it is BF4 in a urban environment. Good game, great game mechanics, well balanced but.......nice as DLC not as a new game. Unless you are not into war shooters you better off with BF4 than with BF Hardline

Also played Wacthdogs this weekend. The youngest bought it. Man this game is onbelieveable bad; graphics are worse than the last games on the PS3, game doesn't feel 'smooth', got stuck a couple of times in the environment, driving is like the first games on the PS2. Turned it off after 1,5 hour. Shame

The Last of Us will be digital remastered and is coming ot the PS4 end of july. Looking forward to that one as I msised out on the PS3.

I dont think Watchdogs is that bad, in fact i find it quite decent, but having said that i dont go out my way to play it that much just little shots here and there.  I thought the driving felt pretty awful in it at first as well, although i think it improves as you level up your skills.  I think i will trade it in for Last of Us as well when it comes out.   Since ive never had a PS before ive not played it either so will be new to me.

Was bemoaning the lack of decent games to a workmate today, this isnt a console war comment, just seems a real drought of good games out currently for next gen.   It will gradually improve in coming months but not greatly, mainly interested in Dragon Age and Batman game but not sure exactly when that is due out.   So those aside there is Last of Us and not sure if its my cup of tea, the new Diablo game/expansion pack.   My mate used to love it and have been told its really addictive so i might try it just since there isnt much in way of alternatives.

Had the PS4 for 3 months now and not bought a game that other than Watchdogs that came with the console.  Any wonder im getting bored with gaming.

Alright Eric have been feeling the same over the past couple of months, was reading the Fifa 15 thread looks like a lot of you's won't be carrying on, most likely will be the same will be getting 15 but i think UT has run its course will be playing clubs though can be a really good experience and fun when 4-5 of you are all involved in a good move leading to a goal. am looking forward to Halo mastercheif edition as the lad is really into it so as i never played it online might be a nice change from COD and BF.

playing Last of Us remasterd at the moment. What a GREAT game! If you like the old Alone in teh Dark and the older Resident Evil games, this game my be appealling for you. Great graphics (on the PS4) great story line and very smooth and nice game play. You can decide if you take them all out or sneak around them. You can upgrade and change weapons. Love it that ammo is limited so you really have to think how you gonnan survive in stead of shooting on everything that moves.

So ... read something this morning about a game that is the brainchild of Chris Roberts - lot to do with Privateer & Freelancer.

The game is Star Citizen and the reason why I saw it, was the fact that they've just hit a new milestone re: crowd funding - $50M! Have been watching various footage on it. Looks damn impressive! The one YT video takes a walk through a hangar - looking at a few ships. Some of the detail inside (specifically the one that looks like it can transport prisoners) was ridiculously good.

Still a long way to go, but there are big plans on the way for it. Impressive vision for the game (dog-fighting in a multi-player arena / open world where the traditional trading, bounty hunting & whatever else ensues / even looking at a FPS component), with one drawback being potential delays of rolling out the pieces of functionality. Apparently Chris Roberts himself mentions that he's a perfectionist and that may be the only drawback!

And the best part ... you can buy a game package for $30! Really is not much. You could also spend $10,000 if you really want to too :D :o.

Kid is already hooked ... now I just need to build a PC for myself :P

Are you by the way also buying AC 5? Games looks pretty good to me, also the coop possibilties are great. Didn't play Black Flag so I think I will pick this one up....wlaking around in 18th century Paris sounds good to me

Post by: Kiwi on August 05, 2014, 08:46:38 pm
The kid loves his AC games so no doubt it will be purchased at one point ;D.

As said before, Black Flag was really cool, but that's because of the pirate-component to it.

Must say that I have been a fan of their historic representation of cities. Should be a good one.

After a few weeks now tracking Star Citizen (www.robertsspaceindustries.com), I can truly say that I am impressed by what is going into this game. Actually, am really, really excited with what they're doing. They have released the Arena Commander (full multi-player available now for all 520,000+ players) and now Racing is coming soon. They also released a teaser about their FPS -  not  much in it, but if it is game play, again - some impressive visuals.

I also watched some play from someone who streams (http://www.twitch.tv/mercenarythorrn) - specifically this video: http://www.twitch.tv/mercenarythorrn/c/4787872 . I am watching him play now - he's about 15 hours into a 24-hour session :o. He's playing a 'capture the core' mode - seems like a capture the flag style game - just with space ships.

A few things here -
X-55 H.O.T.A.S system ... boy - great fun in the simulation side. This guy is pretty darn good with it too!
Mic - love the voice commands in-game!
Game play is SO smooth ... visually impressive.

Overall - if you have a good PC (a really good one) and love space sims ... this may just be the best one ... ever!

Lastly ... today they passed the $50M 'crowd-funding' mark ... crazy stuff!

already posted that I was on the GAmescom today. Some game highlights:

The Order: 1886. Managed to get in the booth and played a part of chapter 3. Great game! Nice graphics, good atmosphere and great weapon! You have to shot and sort of after burn your bullets which results in a sea of flames. This is a PS4 exclusive. One I will certainly buy

Far Cry 4: smooth as FC3, nice game play, great graphics, great hands on for me.

Untill Dawn: not sure yet. Feels a bit old fashioned but it had a great feeling due tot the fact that you only have a flash light and that makes the environment scary enough. Not sure though if this will be a hit or miss

Driveclub basis of the game will be free at PS4, great game! Easy to understand and easy to play with. A game you can play for 30 - 45 minutes and just have fun with it

Forza : yes I was at the XBOX stand too  :D, okaish game nothing special.

more to follow....

Good stuff Glad. Guess it was not too far a drive for you?

Saw some more footage on Star Citizen that they released there too - multiple players on a multi-crew ship - defending the ship by climbing into the gunner's turret. Bit of a glitch on one part of the video with the guy not being able to go down the stairs. Looked like fun though.

The kid's new graphics card arrived today ... more impressed with the game now that I have physically played it. The lighting off the ship - various angles, etc. Really stunning visuals! One 'map' has what looks like a core on fire ... flames leaping out. Again - great visuals.

Enjoyed the dog fighting against the AI, trying to get used to controls and the different aspects of controlling your ship.

I did find out that VoiceAttack.com is what the 2 guys streaming, were using. So, it's an additional $8 purchase to enable macro-type commands. After playing 10 minutes, I can understand why you need voice commands! Complex stuff trying to shift power around on shields ::).

Getting deeper into Skyrim and starting to find my feet. I think all the time I spent getting platinum on Fallout New Vegas has helped because it has it's similarities. It's fairly obvious that there is going to be tons and tons of stuff to do in this game to last for a very long time. I liked the exploring part of FNV and it seems rewarding on this too.
Have cleared out Bleak Falls Barrow temple/tomb and completed the quests based around there.  I guess I have to hang around this area for a bit because until I have built my character up, I'll get destroyed against stronger enemies than the ones that inhabit the Whiterun hold. In FNV you would get destroyed by deathclaws or Cazidores if you tried to go to far afield too soon.
Enjoying it immensely and I guess this and Fifa 15 will be my last major PS3 games

Story is great untill now, lot's of things to do (main and a bunch of side missions). Stealing is fun! You can also solve a chapter in different ways. Great fun!

Yeah, killed my first dragon last night. It was the first one you get on the early mission though, so not come across any randomly whilst exploring or travelling yet. I am hoping for more missions like the one in the Bleak Falls Barrow temple. Little puzzles, floor traps and that giant spider that appears half way.
Getting used to the combat with a two handed weapon, will have to try a few other things and a bit of magic which I have no clue about. There has been a magic college mentioned to me by someone in the village you first come across once you escape the dragon at Helgen. When you come across it does it teach you more about how to use magic and stuff?

Might have a go on "the other game tonight" but then again a bit of exploring and a few of the random quests in the Whiterun area might be a better bet, although I wouldn't be surprised to come across a big quick Colombian or a slightly smaller Cameroonian in a village or a curly haired Brazilian on the back of a dragon or something similar. Maybe some really quick annoying bloke named Kyle in a forest or something?

Had to postpone the climb up to the Greybeards' monastery. Got past the various wolf attacks pretty easily, but after a while this yeti type thing jumped down off a ledge and destroyed me in two hits. Could try again and use lots of potions to get past it, but from my experience of Fallout, this is the games way of telling me to come back another time when you have built your character up a lot more.
Went back to Whiterun and did a few easy quests in the surrounding area and went west to do a bit for the Companions. There was a twist when I was scripted to get blocked in a room, and the guy the Companions sent with me went crazy, turning into a giant wolf, and destroying 3 or 4 guys that had surrounded him at the other side of the portcullis.
This game will last me ages, there is just so much to do, and I always do all the quest, collectables, extra side missions as I go along as well as the story in this type of game.

Today I have encountered a talking dog with a New York accent, a camp vampire god statue, and having took down my 2nd dragon got destroyed by a giant that had wandered up behind me! Spotted him early the next time and let him kill the dragon (easily) whilst hiding in the bushes. Snook around him and was soon being attacked by a sabre cat, a kind of giant lion. Somehow killed it without dying, and have made it to Rorikstead.

Managed to make it up the mountain to see the Greybeards at the second attempt. Had Lydia and the talking dog, Barbas, with me so that helped against the Ice Troll. Also had a bear and snowy sabre cat attack me this time which didn't happen the first time.
Have been building my stats up by completing lots of the small easy side quests and clearing out the hideouts/dungeons and tombs that I've come across exploring.
Next need to reach some of the far away cities. Winterhold, Windhelm, Dawnstar, Solitude and Markarth. Also will be exploring the island of Solsheim which I need to get a boat to near Windhelm. Amazing game.

I have been tied up in AC Unity since Thursday evening. Great game again! Never have seen streets so full with people. It really feels that you are wandering around in a big city. Controls are smooth and the story line is again very good. Other than that it is of course build like every AC game, you have your own house which you have to renovate, loads of side mission (yesterday I got side tracked and didn't play a story mission for hours).

The coop feature is great, especially if you are playing with friends. 2-4 players missions where working together helps you to get the objectives done.

happy so far....

just got an e-mail from UBISOFT, the CEO.....making an apologize towards people that bought AC Unity and had experienced some bugs. They are fixing it rapidly btw, third patch will be rolled out this week. Although it didn't effect my game play too much, this is how game companies should react.

He explains what the difficulties are/were and how they fixed it. As a gesture we get the DLC Dead Kings for free and season pass holders get something extra ; they may chose from a list of 6 titles

It's quite crazy that Ubisoft are getting a tremendous amount of flak - everybody thinks they are the worst. But, they act like that and actually compensate their (loyal) fan base.

almost finished AC Unity, did all the collectibles too, all rift missions, all coop missions, etc. Coupe of challenges away from a shiny platinum trophy. Cannot wait for the DLC!

Received Infamous Second light as gift and will start that game tonight. Saw some footage on The Order 1886, the game I am waiting for:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bew48tQFDBE

Heard that there are many quick time events, something I don't like but the game looks great! The atmosphere is something I really fancy.

It looks like there a lot of decent games out/coming up on new gen now. Starting to think it may be about time to make the jump for me.
Have you played Far Cry 4 yet? That's one I want to play.
Also has any played The Last Of Us?

Far Cry is on my radar screen too.

I have played Last of Us, best game in years (game play, story/setting and length of the game). Really liked it a lot. The single player, MP was not the best. I can really recommend that game

Right, tomorrow morning I get a bus 13 miles to St Austell to pick up a PS4 with Far Cry 4, GTA5, Last Of Us and Fifa 15. If I buy it quickly in the space of like 15 minutes, I get the same bus back and tomorrow midday time I'll be getting set up. Should be interesting!

Hi guys,  I've been playing FarCry 4 for a wee bit, its the only game ive played lately, Fifa has once again just fallen onto the backburner, i dont really have any bad things to say about it, its just not held my attention with the amount of time im spending on gaming.   I think FarCry is a really good game, certainly a good stocking filler and a big game with lots to do.   Think i might be getting Dragon Age at christmas as well, although some negative reviews did put me off a little but they were largely from pc gamers who felt its been dumbed down for consoles.

It's an open world type game with a storyline and side quests and missions to do, collectables to find, enemy camps to liberate, wildlife and stuff. Has online multiplayer options too.

hey bud, yeah i really need to check in more often.

I liked shadow of mordor, could see why it got good reviews.  The warlords are pretty cool with all their warlord names and different traits and weaknesses.    The game is pretty huge in terms of hours to complete, i put loads of time in but only got to 33% or something like that, it was starting to feel a little repetitive, so i sold it as i wanted to get farcry 4 and dragon age.  In the end i just got farcry.  If you can pick it up for 20/25 post xmas then its worth a shot.

I will keep an eye on that Game Eric, saw it also released a lot of DLC too. Still I want to play one big RPG, either Dragon Quest or The Witcher. So waiting for the latter to me launched. Or Shadow of Mordor....too many choices

Finished AC Unity (Platinum) and started with Infamous - Second Light. DLC but still nice to play. Also dicovered this:

Always liked those turn based games. Plazyed a couple on the iPad but it is kind of addictive. Blizzard is smarter than EA, those rare cards are really rare. So eihet you pump in money to open more packs or you just face it inb the batt;efield. As stat DO matter with this game

Been playing quite a bit of GTA 5 online, especially races. They have been given an interesting twist tonight, the whole place is covered in snow! Breaking and sharp corners at any speed, very difficult. Been really good fun though.
And have joined Cuz in a number of races.

Post by: gladiatorrrrrr on December 28, 2014, 07:31:47 pm
good old Cuz, how is he doing?

I have played mainly Heartstone the last week. What a great balanced game it is! Really addictive, even when not playing I am thinking of what deck to make ... :D

Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: gladiatorrrrrr on January 02, 2015, 07:38:31 pm
think the card concept of Heartstone could work with FUT too.

Basicly you have fivetypes of cards: free (you get them in your starters pack and these are soul bound , e.g. non discardable), common, rare, epic and legendary. You can get cards by spending real $ on packs, by spending coins which you can earn throughout playing, or crafting.

every card cost the same in a certain category. If you discard a card you get Arcane Dustr which you can use crafting a card that you are missing in your deck. However, it is very unfavorable conversion rate. You get 5 dust for a common card which in itself cost 40, so you have to be careful and think twice.

You earn coins by playing the ladder (3 victories for 10 gold), playing challenges (get 2 wins with the Mage for instance => 40 coins) and playing the Arena. With the last one you also get dust. However you have to pay 150 Gold upfront.

There is NO Trade market...

In my view this could well be transfered to FUT by putting a fixed 'crafting' amount per player (Messi, Robben, Ronaldo high amount and a bronze a low amount). Earning coins could be toned down a bit, no need to over do it. You can still buy packs with real $ but no market. Legendary cards can be made very rare.

Am likely to pick up a ps4 myself today & am looking at the Far Cry, Last of Us & Drive Club bundle

Last of Us looks really good & got outstanding reviews & for reasons I can't quite put my finger on although GTA tips the review chart I just don't see myself playing it but think I would play Far Cry

Don't know about drive club either - basically I'm just getting a ps4 in the sale for PGA15 which comes out in March/April time  :D

Far Cry 4 is very good. Takes a bit of getting used to all the controls and stuff. It was exactly the same for Far Cry 3, took ages to get fully used to but well worth the early struggles! Started FC4 when PSN was down, so haven't played much yet. Even playing FC 3 previously, it was still a bit of a struggle early on, but is obvious to me that it will be stunning as it goes on. Just hope there aren't too many missions that try to be too clever for there own good as in 3.
Last of Us I have but am yet to play.
GTA5 is well worth it. Having already played the story on PS3, I don't really have any motivation to do it again. The offline GTA is really getting old for me. Still the same thing as the last 4 games really but with better graphics. The online is incredible though and worth the price alone. Rockstar have constantly evolved it since release and added more and more and improved and ironed out exploits and glitches. Idiots also get bunched together in their own lobby which helps. The online creator means there are always new races and tracks being made and put out, plus it helps to be friends with Cuz and his brother who have created some excellent, diverse races and tracks, that use all the different types of vehicle (not just super cars or sports cars) and they belong to a crew that actively promotes fair play. Being friends means that I get invited into their races and they are very good fun, although 90% of the time I am in the back quarter of the field! If you can borrow a copy or rent one for a week or something it might be worth giving it a try.

Good Luck!

Bf4 is as smooth as a shaved ****, never problems. Hardline feels like cod, no walls to tear down, so very static game play. It is not bad just not a 'real' BF

I am currently also bad too  ;D, my K/D ratio is way below 1,0 (in BF4 it is around 1,2 - 1,3 nowadays). I am playing heist and blood money the most. TDM is too boring for me, I need objectives (other then getting as much kills as possible). I am using the standard  sensitivy, always do that. Biggest task/problem itght now is to get to know the maps and the game play....

Are you playing on you standard account? We might could hook up

Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: gladiatorrrrrr on April 06, 2015, 06:33:53 pm
The game is great fun, maps are as always highly balanced. I am playing blood money at the moment. Lobe th ehectic situation artound the pile of cahs. And how you can turn around the game when you are loosing by raiding the enemy cault  ;D

my K/D ratio is nowhere near BF4 , around 1,05. Accuracy is 20%+

I saw that K10 is used a lot indeed. Don't know if it is OP, if so D!CE will tone it down quickly. I like teh SCAR-H and MXP a lot. But that is because I love close combat wars. Just a tip: do use Gas granates ( and don't forget to equp yourself with a gas mask  :D ) great fun to throw in some gas granates and shoot them or just wait and if they were already injured they will die. I prefer them now over the normal ones. And a gas mask looks goofy too  ;D

I am hunting for that trophy with the T 62 CEW. Funny to take people down like that......an electric shock...

Haven't played CIV yet :D played that game since civ1, so I have a pretty good idea that I will like it,

I really like Cities skylines at the moment, a good game, really a lot of mods already, need to work on my cityplanning tho very annoying building a nice town for 8 hours and suddenly the traffic jams start and everything is going down after that.

Fifa maybe next season also it depends if I like other games at Gamescom, not paying for a console for the sole purpose to annoy me at  fifa

looks like we all are steering a bit away from FIFA. Not a bad thing in itself. I just cannot dedicate as much time to it as I used to do. Game feels so boring from time to time. Same old shitty teams you play against, same old shitty play style. Web app down, not a flawless game play, etc.

I had some real laughs with BF yesterday. Fun moments. That is why I game, to relax...

Just had a look at BF. Was not what I expected at all! Looks really good, but I am terrible at shooters. Even on GTA5, I rarely play any of the deathmatch and normally do races.
I did get quite decent on Red Dead Redemption at one point a few years ago, but I'd probably have a kill ratio of 0.2 or something! May try it at some point though.

bf hardline is a nice game, very nice game ... but there are flaws ... rifles are not balanced, carbines and assault ones ...
also the spawning in tdm, is crazy, sometimes you literally spawn next to enemy ...
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: gladiatorrrrrr on April 07, 2015, 11:13:42 pm
I have no real issues with the weapon balance to be honest. Only the spas is irritating me, reach to to far imo.

spawning; you can decide where to spawn. You can see if your team mate is in combat. If unsure it is better to start off from your base again.

Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: otutsarTR on April 08, 2015, 12:46:13 am
in team death match you can't spawn on your teammate i think, its only possible on objective based games ...
apart from m416, m4a1 and ak, rest of the assault rifles are too weak ... as per stats ...

Not playing much Fifa at the moment. Been on GTA5 a lot the past week or so. EA could learn a lot from Rockstar. They are still constantly adding content and things to do to an 18 month old game.
Was some weird stuff going on on the mic last night. Three guys pretending to be hillbillies, one of which was running a limo service were actually hilarious. Some of the stuff they were coming out with was crazy, especially when one of them went clothes shopping. 10 minutes later he went to the strip club. They were obviously sharp witted guys. Then one of them randomly turned into Michael Caine driving the limo but the others were still hillbillies. Trust me it was funny stuff!
Also had some insanely good player on my team in a deathmatch. Got 42 kills and 1 death. We won 54 kills to 2. I'm normally terrible but got 6 kills and for once 0 deaths! They weren't even glitching. He literally killed these 3 guys more or less every way possible with every weapon. Will try and complete my daily objectives on GTA today (another new addition). My objectives yesterday were: Fall over 300 feet and survive, play a round at the shooting range and participate in a Last Team Standing match. The amount of cash you get for doing it grows and grows if you do them on consecutive days. Just the sort of thing I would like to see on FUT. Can you imagine? Today's 3 FUT objectives, score a goal with a Zambia player, keep a clean sheet with a Faroe Islands goalkeeper, score a hattrick with a Canadian. Would be so much better.

A lot of the time going in hard at them is the quickest way to die. The lack of ammo and limited use of melee weapons before they break means you have to plan what you're going to do, or you can get completely overrun. Running away is helpful at times!

Thought I would post this ... there's lots on here.

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/14814-Monthly-Report

Basically it's the monthly update (June) for Star Citizen. That crowd-funded game that's sitting a little under $85M and over 900k 'backers' or subscribers.

That link has a lot of info on it. But, I must admit that the more I read this, the more I am impressed how well 'effective communication' does. They can get quite intricate in the details, e.g. the first video goes into plenty around configuration of a 'passenger type ship' that they're planning.

Really - am impressed with this venture.

Anyone played this months free PSN games? Downloading Rocket League and will download Driveclub. Wasn't that a £50 game a few months ago? Will probably take most of the month to download that though. 15GB will take me a whole 24 hours with the internet around here!

Been playing a fair bit on the new PGA Golf game and the courses, graphics and gameplay are great, however ea appear to have forgotten that golf is a game of statistics. Apart from a few bits in the career mode the game doesn't appear to store any stats at all, very very poor. The other major issue is the only way to improve your golfer is by playing the tour, single rounds, online play and challenges have no impact on your created golfer, no idea how they thought this was a good idea, absolutely shocking design. When you do play the tour you can't decide which stats to increase, it's all pre calculated and bears no relationship to the round you just played, put well and shot shaping increases, hit every fairway and the short game gets better, obviously the game has been created by non golfers.

It's a real shame that these omissions and errors spoil what could have been a great game, as it is it's just a good one.i can only think that it's a completely new team that have not bothered to look at previous incarnations, and have Never actually played golf.

It's a shame that I hear so many bad things about this game every year. Absolutely loved Tiger Woods 2004 on the PS2. Maxed up my pro, did everything to be done and had some great multiplayer sessions with friends. Have never played another version since. It sounds like it has gone downhill since then.

Skipped playing FIFA these last few nights & concentrating on Star Citizen. Playing what they call 'Vanduul Swarm' - effectively dog fighting in the 'Arena Commander' module.

This is one damn good looking game! Not easy at all, either! 15 'waves' - difficulty increasing each time & we're only at the level 5. Must add that we're playing with a joystick which makes it a little harder than mouse+keyboard. But, there's just no fun flying a plane without a joystick :D.

Still need to play Far Cry 4, so probably going to pick soem older games to fill in the gaps....Still need to finish DriveClub (impossible   ;D), Game of Thrones (episode 5 is released), Games from the Borderlands (need to start this one), SP of BF Hardline and the Witcher....

That sounds great then. Think he might be wanting to try something like that.

On another note - tried the PES demo the other night. Looks a little better in some ways and still some 'cartoon-ish' animations at time (Neuer's throwing is quite comical).

I can see in some ways that there is more depth in team setup/tactics/strategies. Loved the fact that I could take a Ribery - rated 89 at LW, to an attacking CAM (even wide) and he went to 90 rated. Likewise, moving Schweiny slightly wider - almost to an LM spot, did not change his rating whatsoever. Could quite easily spend an hour configuring your setup :). I do like very, very much!

Overall, another season of FIFA it will be. The on-pitch animations and annoying replays (need to push start button 3 times to get past it), together with the fact that a player - when on the floor - will always have his arm/head/leg buried in the ground. Bit poor on that front - they should do better. The other annoying factor - probably our settings - was the fact that we scored every with real attempt at goal. It's not bad, but still has a way to go, to lodge me from being pro-FIFA.

@ MGS"be ready then for some sick humor along the way. Really the head developer is a crazy Japanese guy. For instance you can hide against guards by using a card box (it is in your inventory) and you can even walk with it. Some hilarious moments when you see yourself as a card boxe moving around in the map

@ PES; I haven't tried but thanks for the review. Already ordered FIFA anyway

Been watching the latest iteration of Star Citizen's '10 for the chairman' - basically Chris Roberts answers 10 questions from subscribers (these are not backers, subscribers contribute additional $'s on a monthly basis). Question was raised in this last session about users effectively selling in-game currency (called UEC) for real currency. This is it, if you're interested in wasting 27 min ...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=1633&v=sw5N3ivfkds

Now, been reading on the dark side the talk around price ranges. Saw the thread where the EA product (Gilliard Lopes) has mentioned that they are there to stay. Also he has other tweets around curbing coin-farmers.

Back to Chris, it's good to hear the 'main guy' speaking about various topics including this one - being open & honest. Obviously recognises that this is something where people will always try to abuse/hack to make real money off it. Interestingly they will allow 'buying from the source' - but with caps involved. Understandable that they are obviously not the size of EA and therefore need to identify revenue streams to cover monthly operating expenses.

With EA & taking out the tomato box again ... back to an aspect that Glad also mentioned a few times - sell off the damned price list! Sell coins to people directly. Make it worthwhile for packs. Don't be so freakin' greedy.

*quietly pushes the box back under bed realising the day will never come, when EA is hurt by lack of sales or finally listens to the community

This is really a great game. As always, developers of D!CE never let you down!

hectic combats, you can pick up power ups (like being Darth Vader or sitting in one of those giant walkers). And of course you get the whole Star Wars feel good momentum. Very recognizable sounds, etc. In have pre-ordered it!

Did get an email about the beta but it ended 2 days later so figured there wasnt any point.   Defo look forward to playing that in November.

I set it D/Ling Sunday night... ooof, 6 hrs remaining, lol. Pleased that it was still live last night tho so managed to smack in a marathon session (for me) before expiry.
Loved it. Went 4 for 18 in my 1st match and still loved it. Probably mostly because Star Wars was actually religion to me as a boy.
I did get the last Battlefield, on a bit of a COD nostalgia tip, but only played it once, just couldn't get into it.
Very tempted indeed  to get this, reckon I would become slightly addicted to it, couldn't turn it off last night and that was just the Walker battle over and over. Spent a number of rounds just hunting the pick ups and screw the points, so much fun to be had with them, tho I can't fly a Tie Fighter for the life of me. Was quite surprised to do well on some rounds as well. Got absolutely mullered to start with.
The really big thing is that it looks amazing and the sound effects are all totally spot on. Geek fest!
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: EricCartman No1 on October 14, 2015, 03:08:59 am
Sounds awesome, i can never fly anything in battlefield with much success so would expect the same to be the case with the tie fighters.   Just give me the opportunity to wield a light sabre in the game, the dream of operating a snow walker or whatever they're called (I'm old i forget :)) and i'll be happy.   Empire strikes back was the standout film of my childhood by a distance, going to love this.  Oh yeah and opportunity to be a stormtrooper will also be another on the list of awesome things to do.

Totally hyped about this.  My bro doesnt bother with consoles at all but i know he will be jealous as hell when he sees this game in action (already showed him the vid a month or 2 back).
Title: Re: Other Games

Oh so much. The Scout Walkers are really cool. As soon as I saw them staggering about like newborn fawns the way they do, I was desperate to get in one. Easy to come by too. Love that signature pipew pipew they have on the guns :D
You're a big target in them and they can take a while clonk fwd to the action but I was made up just walking about in it the 1st time.
Got to be Darth Vader a couple times too. Didn't know what I was doing the 1st time but the 2nd time I chopped a couple hapless stragglers down then waded in to about 10 rebels and laid waste to half them like a proper badass, force choke and all,  before combined weight of blaster fire ended my kill streak.
Top of the pops might've been sitting in the AT-AT and unleashing holy hell from its cannons. I actually said 'oh mumma' as I spawned into it, which is probably a first.
Saw someone riding along on its roof for a bit and using it as a vantage point. No idea how they managed to leap on it....
Spent most of a couple rounds trying to get to an X-Wing pick up but never made it. Kept dying like a foot from it. The one thing I didn't have a go in.

Fallout 4 is also due in a month, I never play any of the Uncharted games that have just been remastered on PS4, and I have barely touched Far Cry 4. Branching out a bit is getting more tempting with the current Fifa not really drawing me in as previously.

I can highly recommend Uncharted! really really great franchise. If you like a good story, some shooting and puzzling. These are the games for you and having 3 for the price of 1 is a good deal

Fallout has always been great but I am not gonna spend 100° hours anymore on a game. I stil have the Witcher to finish... ;D

It is AC Syndicate & Star Wars for me though

I've never actually played AC. Almost bought one on PS3, but got something else instead. Does sound like the sort of game I like though.
Played Fallout New Vegas to finish three different times and the biggest game I got platinum on. So Fallout 4 is one that I watching out for.

Just downloaded The Walking Dead: Season 2 that they are giving away on Playstation Plus this month. Played through the first one a couple of years ago on PS3 and liked.
Also been playing some of the freemode challenges on GTA 5. First attempt at Hunt The Beast and I was the beast! Was a bit of an epic. Managed to visit 9 out of 10 of the landmark i need to, with a few miraculous escapes from hunters a couple of times. In the end was penned in a junkyard, managed to just about break out but the car I attepted to steal wouldn't start, it was a bit shot up, and that was that. Was an excellent 25 minutes though, and GTA at its best.

Hows anyone getting on with SWBF then?

Actually been really enjoying it so far.   Had read a review before it came out that put seed of doubt in my mind about how good it would be but have really enjoyed it.   The graphics are good, i enjoy the gameplay, love the starwars theme and just think it all seems to work well at the moment.

What I've enjoyed most so far - taking control of the AT-ST (scout walker?) and going on a killing rampage must've taken down about 15+ opponents before finally being taken down.  Love that.   Also picking up a hero card and going into the game as Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader and going on a killing spree with them.   Its the sort of thing you might think could spoil a game, having the ability to enter it as an overpowered character but i really like it.   Adds weight to the whole Star Wars feel to the game and is great fun to use them and also run/try to defeat them when you find yourself having to fight one.

I've not got it yet, had mixed feelings. Seems it's a bit light on long term appeal, according to reviewers. So I read up a bunch of reactions to it, decided the nonh*rdc*reness of it may actually be better for me, COD rusty and likely to dip in and out of it, so I'd definitely get it... Then ummed and awwed again today.

I'll probably get it.

So hard core is censored then... it's just discarded rubble.

Its funny how you can look forward to something then just read a couple things and all of a sudden not be so keen.   Very glad to have got it though and great alternative to Fifa.  Found myself jumping between the two over the weekend but mainly playing Star Wars.   Difficult to say about long term appeal, most games dont tend to last long with me anyway.  My friends at work were saying before i got it that i would be trading it in within a fortnight and whilst that has happened in past it wont be the case this time.   There doesn't appear to be much of a single player mode but not surprised given the Star Wars franchise.   I've been too busy on the multiplayer to be concerned by that anyway.

I tend to think what have you got to lose, pick it up for a decent price, if its not going to hold your interest, sell it within a month for at most a tenner loss.

Be interested to hear what Glad thinks as i know he has been on it over the weekend.

Alien Breed, what an absolute classic! Me and a friend from school used to play that for ages. Those mad dashed for the exit once you'd activated the countdown. Great stuff.

Still playing FM when not on XB1.

Still a brilliant, brilliant, highly addictive and massively time consuming game.  ;D

Still trying to win the PL with the Swans.

Hey Nop ... a few questions if you don't mind:
• What version of FM?
• What mode do you play?
• If not 2016, are you look at getting that? The reason is that we've seen the 'Touch' mode and wanting to hear/check what that's like. I'm hearing 'slightly more complex' than Classic - which is exactly want I want as I don't have time for the full mode.

FM11 mate,  because I love it, and I have read countless poor reviews of later versions saying that they are padded out with tons of time wasting intricacies, which make it just too time consuming... not to mention bugs.

It only has one mode. #asfarasiknow

I find FM11 to be just right on the time consumption front...
I am tempted to venture to a newer version, but can't afford more time on it than I already spend.

Not sure I have looked into FM16 yet.

Nice! Do you download latest updates, or playing from that saved game?

I'm really hoping that 'FM 2016 Touch' will be a good hybrid between enjoying the managerial aspects without the time-wasting crap of the full game. It becomes way too complex - spending 30 minutes simply wading through all those first meetings.

I've bought the FM16 app which i think is the same as the 'touch' version.   Its a lot more simplified, which suits me as i agree with Kiwi that the full game is just too complex now.   Personally i can't be bothered with all the media interaction and the stupid effects responses have on a player and teams form, it just gets annoying for me.

But having played quite a lot of the app version i have to say, it's annoying as hell.   My biggest gripe is the trying to get a job aspect.   My first game i went fulham in championship, season 1 i lost the playoff final and season 2 i got automatic promotion.   Into the premiership and tried to reshape the squad, however no feature to adjust budget as per full game so that you can transfer excess in wage budget into transfer budget.   So after releasing players who i didnt think would cut it in prem, i was left with around 500k wage budget to use and only 3/4m transfer allowance.   My hands were tied and i went into season with skeleton squad only making one or 2 additions to the team.   It was a struggle and i thought screw this, so i resigned before i got sacked.   Applied for countless other jobs, lower level prem jobs, decent championship teams and so on but never heard back from any.  Got to the stage i was applying for jobs i wouldnt take just to see if id get them.   Finally landed a post in the vanarama league after over 6 months of being unemployed.   Just felt like nonsense to me.

Tried another role.   Went Stuttgart, completed 2 full seasons with them, mightve been 3, felt they done really well always in favour with the board, again never a transfer budget of more than 4m at season outset.  Just missed out on europe both years but had lot of good results managing to beat bayern and dortmund.   Got sacked in december of 3rd year, which was harsh, sure team had some bad form but was sitting 11th in a very competitive closely packed league outwith bayern who were miles clear.   Again started applying for jobs in prem and champ, no offers forthcoming, except i accidentally applied for some crap jobs in vanarama again as i had been on holiday, got offered a couple of those, but do me a favour, coming from doing well with bundesliga team for 2/3 years thats a bit of a step down.   Anyway it was a familiar story after the fulham episode.

Apart from that the game is fine.  Boards are ruthless at the top clubs not that ive had chance to experience that.  Commentary for games is a bit tedious, far too many disallowed goals, every goal that goes in seems to be controversial for some reason.   Dont mind that but the disallowed goal thing is annoying, just too many of them.

So at the stage currently where im fed up with it and dont have an active game.  I may start another but partly think why bother as difficult to progress career when its so hard to get a decent job after your initial one.

Hmmm ... interesting read Eric!

Are you playing this on the smartphone/tablet, or PC? It seems there's the Mobile version (which is probably more of an app) and then there's this 'Touch' version - which is PC and still a whopping 1.7GB download.

The kid bought that this evening actually (yep - Steam) but didn't catch up with him as yet, to see what it's like. I would also be a bit irritated if like you say, you are missing a few of those (really functional) aspects of the game.

Its the FM16 mobile version.  Playing it on the iPad.   For £6.99 it had potential to be good value but feeling a bit that there is not much point in playing it now.  I think after a small break i will try again.  Perhaps next time i will go straight to one of the big clubs, rather than try to work my way up, as that doesnt seem to work for me.

Ah ok Eric ... I wouldn't be surprised then that they chop out so much for the tablet app.

For '15, the 'Classic' mode just seemed to be lacking a few things. Apparently they've made this 'Touch' mode a bit more comprehensive that last year, so might just have the right balance.

Will probably see it by the end of the day ... even more chance if EA is still doing some maintenance cr@p ... ::)

All this talk of FM! It's like a recovered alcoholic going into a pub for me. I dread to think how many days, weeks, of my life I put into the likes of Football Manager (the 80's one), Football Director and similar on Spectrum, Premier Manager and Champioship Manager 93/94 (Chris Bart-Williams), Chapionship Manager 01/02 (Played that to absolute death!) and finally FM08 on PC.
Had a two year long save on FM08 where I'd taken Southport from Conference North all the way to the Championship and was International manager of the British Virgin Isles. Got them to a Gold Cup final (the North and Central America tournament, beating Mexico 9-2 in the semi final) but lost 4-0 to USA. Of course I used to sign every British Virgin Islands player to Southport! A couple became decent and got in the Southport 1st team, one was Southport's record sale to Blackburn for  6 million.
Stop playing it in 2011 due to lack of time after my daughter was born.
Still have the save on a USB stick but, probably luckily, the FM08 disk doesn't work anymore. Not played any FM since.

Had a bit of luck and got in a decent lobby on Gauntlet. People being sensible and letting the person that needed food take it, letting each character use there strengths at the correct time, that sort of thing. 4 random people online working together. A rare thing to see and an hour and a half flew by in no time.

Played gauntlet too but so far only on my own as just a local game.  Might try it online now though.

Other games though, for crimbo i expect to be getting Fallout 4 (very much looking forward to) and Rainbow Six Siege (less looking forward to since seeing review).   Always loved Rainbow Six, however i get the feeling the siege element of this one means it may not hit the giddy highs of Rainbow Six Vegas from back in the day.   Should hopefully still be good though.  Never played Fallout games before but big expectations here, hoping its going to be the one.

Had an unbelievably good session on Gauntlet a week or so ago. People were actually working together and letting whoever needed the food take it, ect. An hour and a half flew by.
Loved Fallout: New Vegas. Just exploring the map and finding stuff could eat up hours. Just watch out for Deathclaws and Cazadores. Encountering them early was a sign that this part of the map isn't meant to be explored yet!

Also Battlefield 4 and Battlefield : Hardline were both £3.99 on the PSN store so have bought them both and started on Battlefield 4 last night. Played through the first mission on the campaign mode and really enjoyed that. Well worth £3.99!

Nice one Glad - enjoy! Can't think of much that I would consider.

@TWS ... overall, it's just your typical golf game. Looks fantastic! Likes of Banff (one that I have personally visited - never played as it was winter after all :D) just looks amazing. Oakmont - given that the US Open was there recently, is just remarkable how this game has developed from the World Class Leaderboards days.

I'm not that into trying online competition, so have no clue on that front. So, I've stuck to creating a pro & only sticking to that mode.

Some incredibly tough greens on some courses makes a putting a real challenge - at first. Initially there is an option where you play either key holes or full 18 holes. Stupidly this is set to 'key holes' and you only play 3/4, maybe 5 holes per round. As a result with everything else simulating based on your attributes, you're well down. You're pretty weak at first, so you cannot drive that far & your overall long game is actually a mid game for the likes of Oakmont. Put that together with the greens being difficult = missing cuts regularly.

Once I changed to 18 holes, things got better. Ramped up quicker (effectively get 1800 experience points vs 300-500 per round) re: attributes so after 1 season I was able to use the Attribute Bonuses to get around the driver up to 305-yd mark.

But ... I'm only in Season 2 still - seems like an age that I've been here. Won 11 tournaments including the US Open - some of them by 15+ strokes. Consistency with the swing (I use the left stick 'back/forward' motion) and reading the wind, elevation, lie ... and it's unfortunately too easy. One round - hit 2 balls out of bounds on one hole - still shot 9 under par. How is this competition for a British Open:

Oh, I'm also first in the world now too ... that happened a few tournaments ago. Only my second season ... ::)

There are a few very daft aspects though. Things like, you cannot see a final scoreboard with all 4 rounds. You cannot even go back to see your competition history. Has this idiotic 'highlights' section but it's so weak. Yeah there are some decent stats included (driving distance, GIR %, FIR%, etc), but historical scoring itself - should be there! It's an offline mode - how difficult can it be!

It's still an 'EA game though' ...

Tried a second shot as well - same thing but thankfully did not go out of bounds.

Thanks for that. Sounds like the same thing that would happen on Tiger Woods 2004 on PS2. You could easily win tournaments by 40 shots and similar. Might pick it up, or perhaps stick with games like Fry Cry 4 and Fallout 4 that I already have but struggled to get into. Waiting for the Skyrim remake as enjoyed that on PS3 but stopped when I got the PS4.

Recently been playing Tricky Towers, the free game from PSP in August which I've really enjoyed.
Also been playing Lego Star Wars with my little girl. She's actually quite good at it. She even plays Rocket League online!
A week or two back I also downloaded the GTA trilogy which contains GTA 3, GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas. Have only played Vice City so far. Absolutely loved that back on PS2 when it was pretty ground breaking and amazing. It hasn't aged too well. And compared to GTA 5, the controls and camera are pretty horrendous and mess up mission attempts so much. Still good though and enjoying it probably due to nostalgia!
Also really struggling to get into The Witcher 3. Like it but just a bit overwhelmed.

I've been playing a lot of Just Cause 3 which was given away free on PS+ last month. Some pretty mad stuff can happen at times, especially when the NPC characters generate random nuns driving speedboats or powerful motorbikes. Best thing about it is the explosions. They can be pretty spectacular, especially when they start chaining and blowing enemies up left right and centre.
